Season with:
- Browning sauce
- Soy sauce
- Worcestershire sauce
- Oyster sauce
- Garlic powder
- Onion powder
- Smoked paprika
- Creole seasoning
- Black pepper
- Allspice
- Thyme
Massage the seasoning into the meat and refrigerate for at least 2 hours (overnight is even better).
Step 2: Brown the Oxtails
Heat olive oil in a Dutch oven over medium-high heat.
Brown the oxtails for about 3–4 minutes per side until deeply caramelized.
Remove and set aside.
Step 3: Build the Braising Liquid
In the same pot, sauté:
- Onion
- Garlic
- Bell peppers
- Green onions
Cook for 3–4 minutes.
Add:
- Beef broth
- Bay leaves
- Scotch bonnet pepper (optional)
Return the browned oxtails to the pot.
Cover and simmer for 3 to 3½ hours, or until the meat is fall-off-the-bone tender.
Step 4: Shred the Oxtails
Remove the oxtails from the pot.
Let them cool slightly.
Pull all the meat from the bones and chop it into bite-sized pieces.
Discard the bones.
Strain the braising liquid and reserve ½ cup to mix into the lo mein for extra flavor.
Step 5: Cook the Lo Mein Noodles
Bring a large pot of water to a boil.
Cook the lo mein noodles according to the package directions.
Drain and toss with 1 tablespoon sesame oil to keep them from sticking.
Step 6: Make the Lo Mein Sauce
Whisk together:
- Soy sauce
- Oyster sauce
- Hoisin sauce
- Brown sugar
- Beef broth
- Sesame oil
- Rice vinegar
- Garlic
- Ginger
- Chili garlic sauce
- Cornstarch mixed with water
Set aside.
Step 7: Cook the Vegetables
Heat a large wok or skillet over medium-high heat.
Add sesame oil.
Cook:
- Mushrooms
- Carrots
- Cabbage
- Bell peppers
- Onion
Stir-fry for about 4–5 minutes, keeping the vegetables crisp-tender.
Step 8: Toss Everything Together
Add the cooked noodles to the vegetables.
Pour in the homemade lo mein sauce.
Add the chopped oxtail meat.
Pour in ½ cup of the reserved braising liquid.
Toss everything together for 3–5 minutes until the noodles are glossy and coated with sauce.
Finish with chopped green onions.
🍽️ Garnish
- Green onions
- Sesame seeds
- Fresh parsley
- Red pepper flakes (optional)

- Don’t overcook the vegetables; a little crunch makes the dish even better.
- For a restaurant-style finish, drizzle with a little extra sesame oil just before serving.
